Equality of Voting

The Constituency Commission has, at last, produced its report. Given that all the necessary data to produce proposals for required changes to the electoral constituencies has been available since early this year it behoves the Commission to explain why it consistently takes so long to produce a report.

One commentator in the Irish Times seems to point to the reason; the political class views the review of constituencies as being about the “rights and opportunities of the candidates rather than the rights of the electorate.

The Commission needs to show that it emphatically does not share that view.
